Dean was my best friend, we went to college together and drove between Tucson and Chicago many times. I looked him up each time I went to Tucson, and we continued to have great times. I just learned about his death tonight while reading the Arizona alumni magazine. Wasn't expecting to see this.

To the Family of Dean Schipfer... What a terrific friend Dean was to so many at Sunset Ridge. As my sister said when she heard of his passing, "Dean was one of the Good Guys!" I recall actually envying Dean because he had such a 'cool' name! Mostly however I remember him as a kind, thoughtful person, and a really great friend to have. I send your family the warmest of condolences and blessings.

I was a classmate of Dean's from Sunset Ridge School days through New Trier. He was a lovely man and I am so sad to hear of his untimely passing. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to read of Dean's passing. I guess you never forget your first crush. And I had a huge one on him. I hope that his passing was peaceful. I hope that he had a fulfilled life. he will always have a part of my heart.

Obituary for John Schipfer
SCHIPFER, John Dean, Jr., long time Tucson, Arizona resident John Dean Schipfer, Jr. died June 23, 2011 following a courageous battle with liver disease. He was 59 years old. Dean, as he was known, spent more than ten years in the real estate business before becoming a stockbroker. For more than the last 20 years, Dean guided clients through the intricacies of successful investment, most recently with Source Capital Group. Dean was dedicated to his family, friends, and the clients he devotedly served. All who knew him know Dean is now watching his beloved Chicago Cubs from above and cheering them on while praying for that long awaited trip to the World Series. Dean is no doubt watching over his devoted companions, Shadow and Nikita, the best dogs and friends anyone could ask for, with his beloved Diva now at his side. Born February 19, 1952 in Evanston, Illinois, he graduated from New Trier West High School in Northfield and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona. The Chicago area native was predeceased by his parents, John Dean Schipfer and Sally Craft Schipfer of Northfield. He is survived by his son, Kyle Craft Schipfer of Tucson, AZ; his brother, Cory Schipfer (Colleen), their children, Brandon, Ryan and Emily of Northfield, IL, and his sister, Stacy Hermann (Paul), and their children, Dustin and Samantha of St. Charles, IL. A private service in his memory will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Arizona German Shepherd Rescue at http://germanshepherd.rescueme.org/Arizona.
