I just heard that Mari passed..although we lost touch so many years ago..I will always remember her as if it was yesterday flying down the hill on our saucers during winters at the house on Bluff in Glencoe, as well as her always winning hopscotch, but letting me win at jacks. That was Mari...deeply competitive as all the Haas' were, but always so generous in heart to let us taste the the win. Although I knew her the 1st 20 of her 60...she will always be a huge influence in my life to never say "I can't"...RIP Mari
with love and light

I am so saddened by Mari's passing. She was truly inspirational for me as a Spanish teacher and a mentor. Project SOL was a highlight of my teaching career. She really touched and inspired so many. Que descanse en paz, Mari and love and my deepest condolences to her family and close friends.

By teaching teachers how to harness the magic of learning language through culture, Mari's impact will be felt across time by countless children. Thank you Mari for your gift in showing us how rich & enriching language learning can be.

Mari showed me what language teaching is really all about. I think of Mari every time I walk into my classroom, every time I begin an activity with my students, every time I write a new thematic unit. Thanks to Mari, I am the teacher I am today. Gracias, Mari.

Mari showed us a beautiful and joy-filled road to follow. She inspired us to love deeply, care for those around us, and to make a difference in our world. She shared her talent, creativity, and passion for life openly and selflessly with all those around her. We are all grateful for her leadership, generosity, and her vision. She lives on in all those she has touched throughout her years with us and will continue to make a difference in our lives...

I too, remember sliding down the biggest hill in Glencoe in her back yard and her giant malmute dog following behind. Mari was loads of fun growing up in her neighborhood.  And my memories of Central school are with me forever. Jane White Ward, Elko, Nevada
