I am going to be auditioning for America's Got Talent on February 9th at 8am at the Pasadena Convention Center. I am so excited. This has been on my bucket list for a longtime and since I only live 110 miles from Pasadena, I thought I would try it. Also, I sang for Lucie Arnaz at the Purple Room in Palm Springs about 6 months ago at a Master Class she sponsored!

Life: Charles has lived between Glencoe and Chicago's Gold Coast his entire life. His father's family settled in Northfield, IL in 1860 and his mother's parents located to Glencoe in 1912 when her father was hired by the Stonehill family, their home later to be called "The Lady Esther Estate", to be their resident carpenter. In 1918, Charles' grandfather, Albert C. Hillinger, left the employ of the Stonehills and began his career as one of the leading builder's of fine homes and mansions on the North Shore. Charles' father, Ralph "Barney" Barenbrugge, joined the construction business upon his return from "World War II" and became a fixture on the North Shore for his detailed cabinetry work.

Charles continues the family tradition of giving exemplary service in the Real Estate industry. He believes that it can make a world of difference to have an agent who goes that extra-mile for you, which he does for all of his clients.

Charles worked for 10 years in property casualty insurance (Fred J. Sauter & Co., Alexander & Alexander and Marsh & McLennan and also has 7 years experience as a mortgage broker from 1992 - 1999. "Insurance and financial knowledge always come in handy during a Real Estate sale". Charles is waiting to take his California Real Estate Exam but since moving to California - Palm Springs/Cathedral City, he opened a 3D Tour Company - He is also waiting to receive his commission as a Loan Document Signing Notary Public.

It was Frank's and my dream to one day live in Palm Springs, so, I'm selling our condo at Winston Towers in Chicago (now that Frank passed away last March) and carrying on with our dream and moving to Palm Springs/Cathedral City, California. I am selling real estate from Palm Desert to Palm Springs to LA. I just listed a home in Monterey Hills next to South Pasadena for $1,150,000.00.

Charles is a 1970 graduate of New Trier East High School, a graduate of the U of IL at Chicago with a BA in Economics, a native of Glencoe, IL and resided in the Gold Coast for over 15 years. Charles and his husband, Frank Kiesel, have been together since May 29, 1995. Civil Partners as of 6-9-2011. NOTE: Frank died in the ER of St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL due to an error performed by the resident doctor on March 30, 2017.

Charles has had listings and sales throughout the entire Chicagoland area for over 28 years and is now making a name for himself in the Palm Springs to LA areas in California. Charles has TV and Radio commercials running daily.

Favorite School Memories:

Being in the chorus for Bye Bye Birdie, Pajama Game, West Side Story, My Fair Lady and Lagniappe '68 (still have two vinyl LP's of the soundtrack!!).

Other memories include my advisor Evan Ellis and his going over tardy pink slips that I always seemed to be the winner "Wayward, Errant and Recalcitrant" as he would say every morning! Also, I remember Andies Restaurant where Luciano's is now and their "fabulous" shakes and of course, White's Drug Store and Mary's Cupboard!!

I also remember Mrs. Woolson's ballroom dancing lesson (not Mrs. Wilson) at the Kenilworth Women's Club and dancing with June Woolson!!

I was a member of the Evanston Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. When I was 16 years old, I received my Glider Solo Wings. We used to drive out to Huntley, Illinois early on a Sunday morning to a farm on Algonquin Road just east of Huntley. One of the area CAP leaders owned the farm and also a single engine Piper Cub. They would "tether" the glider to the rear of the Piper Cub and fly us up to 4500 ft and then we would pull the release lever and - then we were on our own. Since there was no radio contact and no on air-craft navigation aids, we had to make sure that we had accustomed ourselves with the area - during our training flights. It was thrilling and scary all at the same time but memories, I will never forget. I also piloted a variety of Helicopters during a one week encampment, the same summer I soloed in Gliders. I piloted the Chicago Police and Fire Pontoon Helicopter, a Jet Bell Helicopter and a troop carrier Helicopter based at Glenview Naval Air Station - now the home of "The Glen".

I have a new listing at 687 Shafter Way in the Oak Hills Estates area of Monterey Hills in east Los Angeles. It is a 4 BR plus den, 2.5 Bath home priced at $1,150,000.00. I will be holding our second two day open houses this weekend from 1-6pm both Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of September. The views from the second floor are awesome! You can visit the 3D Matterport Tour I did for the property (since I own my own 3D Camera, I do the tours for all of my listings) . If you know anyone out here in California whammy have an interest in this area or my local area of Palm Springs, please feel free to let them know about me. I offer incentives to Sellers (4% Listings) and Buyers (20% of my net commission credited to them during the close of escrow as a closing present) as long as the Sellers and Buyers use me through the close of Escrow.

My bucket list seems to be expanding since moving to California but I always thought it would be fun to Audition for America's Got Talent as Charles the singing Realtor. So, a little over a month ago I checked the upcoming season's audition schedule and found out they are holding auditions in Burbank - about 110 miles away from Palm Springs, the weekend of the 9th of February, 2019. So, I signed up for my initial audition at 8:00am in Burbank on Saturday, February 9th, 2019. I met a pianist at the Purple Room in Palm Springs (that is where I sang for Lucie Arnaz - daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz) a few weeks ago and he is going to teach me stage presence, how to hold the mic, eye contact with the audience, help me choose the correct songs and keys in which to sing them and other important performing secrets. I'm not expecting to win AGT but I would love to see what it is like auditioning for the TV show. Once I do the initial audition, I can cross AGT off my bucket list! Wish me LUCK!! Thanks, Charles "Chuck" Barenbrugge

I had the great opportunity of meeting and singing for Lucie Arnaz (daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz) at the Purple Room in Palm Springs on Monday March 5, 2018. It was a master class for people to get instruction on how to handle being nervous in front of an audience. I learned a lot from the pianist/composer/conductor David Friedman, longtime friend of Lucie's on Broadway. At the end of the evening, Lucie came up to me, shook my hand and said "Charles you did a great job and I love your voice!". It was an incredible experience! Thank you Lucie Arnaz!
